Road to Aadi Kailash (Gunji to Jyolingkong)

Easier Access to Adi Kailash: ₹200 Crore Road Improvement Ends Exhausting Two-Hour Journey

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has completed the tarmacking of a 36 km stretch of road from Gunji to Jyolingkong, leading to Adi Kailash, by working tirelessly day and night. The project, which cost ₹200 crore, has significantly improved accessibility for pilgrims and tourists visiting Adi Kailash and has made travel in the region much smoother.

Reaching Adi Kailash is now easier than ever, thanks to BRO’s commendable efforts. The road from Gunji to Jyolingkong at an altitude of 14,000 feet has been paved and upgraded, making travel convenient for visitors as well as the residents of the Vyas Valley. This crucial project ensures smoother travel for devotees heading to Adi Kailash and boosts connectivity in the region.

Lt. Colonel Bhavna Chaukse, Officer Commanding of the 65 RCC (GREF), highlighted that BRO officers, employees, and workers worked relentlessly for 15 months under harsh conditions to complete this ambitious project.

The road has been widened to 3.75 meters as part of the development, and its improvement strengthens India’s strategic hold near the China border. This advancement will benefit not only the soldiers stationed at the border but also the local residents of Vyas Valley and pilgrims heading to Adi Kailash.

Local villagers, including Ashok Singh Nabiyal from Nabi, expressed their gratitude to BRO. They also raised further demands for road improvements from Gunji to Nabidhang and Napalchu to Garbyang, as highlighted by former village head Anju Raunkali and Gunji sarpanch Laxmi Gunjyal.

Five Valley Bridges Constructed for Better Connectivity

Lt. Colonel Bhavna Chaukse shared that the road from Gunji to Jyolingkong now includes five Bailey bridges to facilitate smoother movement for soldiers, residents, and tourists. Additionally, protective walls have been constructed to enhance road safety.

Travel Time to Aadi Kailash Parvat Reduced by Half

Earlier, it took 1.5 hours for pilgrims to travel from Gunji to Jyolingkong. Now, with the road improvement, vehicles can travel smoothly, reducing the journey time by half. With the completion of the tarmacking work on the Gunji to Jyolingkong stretch, BRO is set to begin road improvement work on the Gunji to Nabidhang section next month.
