Overview

A Journey beyond the material world.

At the very top of the world, where the Himalayas give way to the Tibetan plateau and the sky presses close to the earth, stands Mount Kailash. Not the tallest peak in the range. Not the most technically challenging. But the one that has drawn human beings across four thousand years of recorded history — Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Bon — in a pilgrimage of such power and persistence that it can only be called a calling. Kailash Parvat, at 6,638 metres, is believed to be the cosmic centre of the universe, the axis mundi, the home of Lord Shiva himself. Lake Mansarovar, nestled at its foot at 4,590 metres, is the highest freshwater lake in the world — and in Hindu tradition, it was formed by the mind of Lord Brahma (Manas = mind, Sarovar = lake), a place so sacred that a single dip washes away the sins of a hundred lifetimes. Our Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Package 2026 (9 Days / 8 Nights, by Flight and Helicopter via Nepalgunj from Lucknow) is designed for the pilgrim who answers that calling. From Lucknow to Nepalgunj by road, then by air to Simikot, then by helicopter across the Nepal-Tibet border to Hilsa, and finally by vehicle through the Tibetan plateau to the shores of Mansarovar and the path around Kailash — every element of this journey is handled with care, expertise, and the deep respect that this pilgrimage deserves. Om Namah Shivaya

About Mount Kailash — Mythology & Geography

Mount Kailash (Kailash Parvat) rises to 6,638 metres in the Ngari Prefecture of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, in the western Himalayas. It is part of the Transhimalayan range, geographically distinct from the main Himalayan chain, and stands largely isolated — a pyramidal peak of extraordinary symmetry that appears almost supernatural in its geometry. No human being has ever climbed to its summit — not because it is technically impossible, but because every attempt has been abandoned out of reverence. It is considered so sacred by Hindus, Tibetan Buddhists, Jains, and followers of the Bon faith that to summit it would be considered a profound act of desecration. In Hindu tradition, Mount Kailash is the home of Lord Shiva — where he sits in eternal meditation with Goddess Parvati and the entire assembly of Shiva-ganas. It is believed that undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and completing the Parikrama (circumambulation) of the mountain washes away the sins of a full lifetime and brings the pilgrim one step closer to Moksha. The Kailash Yatra is considered the ultimate pilgrimage — beyond Char Dham, beyond Amarnath — because it is the journey to the very source

why choose this Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Package by Helicopter via Nepalgunj

There are several routes to Kailash Mansarovar — the overland route from Kathmandu via Saga (14+ days), the Indian Government MEA route via Lipulekh (22+ days, lottery-based), and the helicopter route via Nepalgunj and Simikot. The helicopter route is the shortest, most comfortable, and most time-efficient path to the sacred mountain — and it is the route our 9D/8N package uses. Starting from Lucknow — the ideal departure point for pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and neighbouring states — the journey by road to Nepalgunj takes just 4–5 hours, followed by a flight to Simikot in western Nepal and then a chartered helicopter to Hilsa on the Nepal-Tibet border. From Hilsa, a comfortable vehicle transfer through spectacular Tibetan landscape takes you to Lake Mansarovar and Mount Kailash. You still complete the full 52 km Kailash Parikrama on foot (with yak support for luggage) — but you arrive there in 3 days instead of 14. This is the yatra of the modern pilgrim: full spiritual completion, compressed timeline, maximum care. Om Namah Shivaya.

Sacred Sites on the Kailash Mansarovar Route (via Nepalgunj)

  • Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu — One of the holiest Shiva temples in the world. Morning aarti + Rudrabhishek puja performed before the yatra begins. (For Kathmandu-based groups.)
  • Khojernath / Ramsita Gompa, Purang — Ancient Tibetan Buddhist temple with meditation caves in Purang (Taklakot). A remarkable cultural stop on the drive from Hilsa to Mansarovar.
  • Rakshas Taal (Ravan Hrada) — The 'demon lake' — a brackish lake near Mansarovar, believed to be the site of Ravana's penance to Lord Shiva. Dramatic and haunting in its empty beauty.
  • Gauri Kund — A sacred glacial lake at 5,630m near the Dolma La — believed to be where Goddess Parvati bathed. Accessed during the Parikrama.
  • Yam Dwar — The 'Gate of Yama' — the ceremonial entrance to the Kailash Parikrama at Darchen. Crossing Yam Dwar symbolically marks the beginning of the circumambulation.
  • Saptarishi Caves — Caves associated with the seven great sages (Saptarishi) of Hindu tradition, located near the conclusion of the Parikrama at Zuthulpuk.
  • Tirthapuri — Hot springs and an ancient Tibetan monastery near Purang, where pilgrims traditionally bathe and perform rituals after the Parikrama.
"The mountains are not just a destination, they are a transformation."

Weather permitting: board charter helicopter from Simikot to Hilsa (Nepal-Tibet border, approx. 25 minutes). Complete immigration formalities on the Nepali side at Hilsa. 03

Day 3: Purang (Taklakot) — Acclimatisation Day

Full day acclimatisation in Purang (Taklakot). This is a mandatory rest day — altitude sickness (AMS) risk is highest when ascending quickly by helicopter. Walk slowly, drink 4+ litres of water, eat light. Visit Khojernath / Ramsita Gompa — ancient Tibetan Buddhist monastery overlooking Purang valley. Explore Purang market (Tibetan and Nepali goods). Rest afternoon at hotel. Guide conducts a detailed Kailash Parikrama briefing: route, distances, timing, yak loading, Dolma La crossing strategy. Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner (Indian vegetarian, cooked by your team) | Stay: Hotel, Purang | Max altitude: 3,700 m
04

Day 4: Purang → Mansarovar Lake (100 km drive)

Morning departure by comfortable vehicle (AC Volvo-category bus) toward Lake Mansarovar. Pass through Gurla La Pass with views of Gurla Mandata peak (7,728 m). Drive through the sweeping Tibetan plateau.First view of Lake Mansarovar — one of the most visually stunning moments of the entire yatra. Arrive at Mansarovar shore. Check in to hotel/guesthouse. Afternoon: Parikrama of Mansarovar Lake by vehicle (105 km around the lake). Stop at multiple sacred ghats. Visit Chiu Gompa — the clifftop monastery. 05

Day 5: Mansarovar — Holy Dip, Puja + Drive to Darchen

Pre-dawn wake-up for the most auspicious moment of the yatra: the holy dip (Pavitra Snan) in Lake Mansarovar. Bathe in the sacred waters at sunrise, with Kailash Parvat illuminated on the northern horizon. Puja ceremony at the lakeside led by your guide. Offer prayers, distribute prasad. Many pilgrims consider this the spiritual centrepiece of the entire journey. After breakfast, drive to Darchen (30 km) — the base camp town for the Kailash Parikrama. Arrive Darchen, rest and prepare for the Kora. Load yaks with communal equipment. Guide brief on Day 6 departure time and Parikrama protocol. Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner | Stay: Hotel, Darchen | Max altitude: 4,575 m
06

Day 6: Darchen → Derapuk — Parikrama Day 1 (14 km trek)

The Parikrama begins at Yam Dwar — the ceremonial Gate of Yama, marking the start of the circumambulation. Cross Yam Dwar and begin the Kailash Kora clockwise. Trek 14 km from Darchen to Derapuk guesthouse, ascending gradually through the Lha Chu valley. The North Face of Kailash comes into full, breathtaking view as you approach Derapuk — the most dramatic mountain face most pilgrims will ever see. Arrive Derapuk by afternoon. Rest and acclimatise. The North Face of Kailash at sunset from Derapuk is considered one of the most sacred sights in Hinduism. Evening prayers and dinner. Early rest — tomorrow is the longest and hardest day. Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner | Stay: Guesthouse, Derapuk | Max altitude: 4,900 m | Trek: 14 km
07

Day 7: Derapuk → Dolma La (5,630m) → Zuthulpuk — Parikrama Day 2 (22 km)

Pre-dawn start (4:30–5 AM). The critical day of the Parikrama — the crossing of Dolma La Pass at 5,630 metres. This is the highest point of the entire journey and the most physically demanding section. Ascent from Derapuk to Dolma La: steep, steady climb over rocky terrain. Altitude can cause breathlessness — walk slowly, use trekking poles, breathe deeply. Your guide carries oxygen for emergencies. At Dolma La: the summit pass is draped in thousands of prayer flags. Pilgrims leave offerings and perform puja at the summit. The view from Dolma La — on a clear day — reveals an infinite expanse of the Tibetan plateau. Descent from Dolma La to Gauri Kund (sacred glacial lake, 5,608 m) and then down through the Lham Chu valley to Zuthulpuk guesthouse (4,760 m). Visit Saptarishi Caves near Zuthulpuk. Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner | Stay: Guesthouse, Zuthulpuk | Max altitude: 5,630 m (Dolma La) | Trek: 22 km
08

Day 8: Zuthulpuk → Darchen → Hilsa → Simikot

Final 6 km of the Kailash Parikrama — gentle descent from Zuthulpuk back to Chongdo and Darchen, completing the full 52 km circuit. Parikrama complete. The return to Darchen, having walked entirely around the sacred mountain, is one of the most quietly joyful moments of any pilgrim's life. Refreshment and departure from Darchen. Drive 45 km back to Hilsa border crossing. Cross the Nepal-Tibet border on foot. Board helicopter at Hilsa helipad for the 25-minute flight back to Simikot (weather permitting). Overnight at Simikot guesthouse. Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner | Stay: Guesthouse, Simikot | Max altitude: 5,630 m → 2,910 m | Trek: 6 km + 45 km drive
09

Day 9: Simikot → Nepalgunj → Lucknow — Departure

Early morning: connecting domestic flight Simikot → Nepalgunj (45 minutes). On arrival at Nepalgunj, transfer to the AC bus for the 4–5 hour road return journey to Lucknow. Arrive Lucknow by afternoon/evening with the blessings of Kailash Parvat and Mansarovar Lake. Your guide coordinates the final dispersal at the Lucknow meeting point. Note: We strongly recommend not scheduling onward connections the same day as Day 9 — weather delays on the Simikot sector can push the Nepalgunj arrival by a day. Please plan with a buffer day. | Meals: Breakfast + Lunch en route
